Glamping in Joshua Tree

Wander to the whimsical desert wilderness of Joshua Tree for your next weekend getaway.

Whether you’re in search of the perfect location for your next girl’s trip, or a romantic escape with your better half, Joshua Tree should be the next place on your travel bucket list.

Named after the Yucca brevifolia, this tranquil desert oasis sprawls across both the Mojave and Colorado deserts, each with its own ecosystem whose unique characteristics are determined by their elevation. Also known as “desert daggers,” many compare the Joshua Tree’s peculiar shape and stature to that of art drawn by Dr. Seuss!

You’ll be exploring two locations on this adventure: Joshua Tree National Park and the town of Joshua Tree, both located right next door to one another.

  • Our first stop is the Cholla Cactus Garden Nature Trail, located roughly 12 miles south of the park’s north entrance. The unusual cactus dubbed the “teddybear cholla,” is the main attraction of this extraordinary site, but be careful not to lay a finger on any of their dangerously spiky thorns! Hundreds of these precarious (yet beautiful) cacti form a chimerical scenery on this gorgeous .25-mile hike.
  • Next up is Arch Rock, an effortless .3-mile hike that winds you through a magnificent array of colossal rock formations. Walking upon these massive rock piles will have you feeling as if you just stepped onto another planet! Follow the trail from the new Twin Tanks trailhead, and enjoy the stunning views of this enchanting desert landscape.
  • —Now we are ready to go glamping!
  • Sprawling across 10 picturesque acres of private California desert, lies the Lazy Sky Boutique Retreat. As soon as you arrive at this secluded Airbnb, you will realize that Lazy Sky is NOT your typical campground. You may choose to stay in a deluxe tipi, glamping tent, or yurt, and will be provided all of the luxury glamping accommodations you could possibly imagine. A communal kitchen and grill are accessible to use at any time during your stay, and you will have your own private patio.

My girlfriends and I chose to stay in The Nomad Tent, a boho chic residence equipped with all the cozy comforts of home. Amenities include a propane fire pit, a plush king-size bed, indoor and outdoor furniture, and of course a hot pink hammock- (for the aesthetic!). Remember to pack hot dogs, ingredients for s’mores, and perhaps a pack of hard seltzers if you want to fully unwind!

Lazy Sky is the sweetest escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether you’re stargazing, watching the sunset, or bundled up by the campfire; you will be soaking up all of Joshua Tree’s natural splendor.
