After making it past the hurdles of the flight attendant interview process, you have finally received a job offer from your dream airline!
You should be proud of yourself, but it’s not over yet! Now it is time to head to flight attendant training, and you MUST be prepared.
You are learning a massive amount of information in a particularly short period of time. Expect your days to involve countless PowerPoints, hours of studying, and daily exams. You will need to be fully focused in order to absorb such a significant amount of material. All your concentration needs to be on the singular goal at hand: PASSING TRAINING. What can you expect?
- Training is typically a 5-8 week process, averaging about 50 hours per week. Having only one day off per week is the norm! In other words, you will be studying more than a college student during finals week.
- Beware, most airlines do not pay for training. Save up money beforehand. A weekly food stipend is typically provided if training is unpaid.
- You will be given hotel accommodation for the duration of the training and will likely have a roommate. You potentially may even be staying in dormitories located at training headquarters.
- Grooming standards, safety-related duties, and various procedures will make up your training curriculum.
- Expect a dress code. You will need to follow the sort of rules you always resented in your high school years… no texting during class, no snacking, no side conversations- you get the gist.
- I can assure you if you put in maximum effort and conduct yourself accordingly, you WILL graduate training.
One often describes the process of officially becoming a flight attendant as “earning their wings”. This refers to when an instructor or current flight attendant pins your airline’s wings on your new uniform during the graduation ceremony. The moment I earned my wings is when I knew I had found my true calling. This is a memory that will forever be etched in my heart, and my life has been nothing short of a non-stop adventure ever since. Take the advice above, and I guarantee you will achieve the same results. Now go earn those wings!
